Omnisend is the most common alternative for e-commerce brands leaving Klaviyo. Both platforms are built for online stores, both integrate deeply with Shopify, and both offer email and SMS in one platform. The main reason businesses switch is pricing: Omnisend is significantly cheaper than Klaviyo at most list sizes, particularly once SMS is factored in.

This guide covers everything you need to migrate from Klaviyo to Omnisend without losing subscribers or breaking your automations. Estimated time: 3-6 hours.

Before you start

Keep your Klaviyo account active throughout the migration. Do not cancel it until Omnisend is fully set up and tested. Cancelling early means losing access to your historical data and any active automations still running.

Step-by-step migration guide

Step 1
Create your Omnisend account and connect your store
30 minutes

Sign up at Omnisend and connect your Shopify or WooCommerce store. Omnisend will begin syncing your store data. Keep Klaviyo running in parallel until Omnisend is fully operational.

Step 2
Authenticate your sending domain
15-30 minutes

Add your domain in Omnisend's sender settings and complete DKIM authentication. Do this before importing contacts or sending any emails.

Step 3
Export your subscriber list from Klaviyo
15-30 minutes

In Klaviyo, go to Lists and Segments, select your main subscriber list, and export as a CSV. Include all profile properties. Export your suppression list separately.

Step 4
Import contacts into Omnisend
15-30 minutes

In Omnisend, go to Audience, Subscribers, and import your CSV. Map fields carefully. Import suppressed contacts as unsubscribed to maintain compliance. Your Shopify-connected contacts will also sync automatically.

Step 5
Rebuild your automation flows
2-3 hours

This is the main rebuild work. Document your active Klaviyo flows before starting. In Omnisend, go to Automation and rebuild each flow. Omnisend has a pre-built library of e-commerce flows (welcome series, cart abandonment, browse abandonment, post-purchase) that you can customize rather than building from scratch. This speeds up the process significantly.

Step 6
Rebuild email templates
1-2 hours

Use Omnisend's drag-and-drop editor to rebuild your key templates. Omnisend's email builder includes dynamic product blocks that pull in your store's product data automatically.

Step 7
Set up forms and pop-ups
30-60 minutes

Recreate your opt-in forms in Omnisend. Replace Klaviyo form scripts on your website with Omnisend embeds. Test each form.

Step 8
Disconnect Klaviyo from Shopify and go live
15-30 minutes

Once Omnisend is fully tested and operational, remove the Klaviyo integration from your Shopify store. This prevents duplicate data sync. Cancel Klaviyo on your billing date.

The bottom line

Migrating from Klaviyo to Omnisend is a like-for-like move between two e-commerce-focused platforms. Omnisend's pre-built automation library speeds up the workflow rebuild considerably. Budget three to six hours for the migration and run both platforms in parallel for a few days before fully switching.
